When a hulking monster emerges from an underground resting place and begins a mindless rampage, the Justice League is quickly called in to stop the colossal force of nature. But it soon becomes apparent that only Superman can stand against the monstrosity that has been nicknamed Doomsday. Battling their way throughout America, the two fight to a standstill as they reach the heart of Metropolis. Going punch for punch, Superman finally ends the threat of Doomsday as he throws one last punch and collapses forever. Collects SUPERMAN #496 - 497, SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL #18-19, JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #69, SUPERMAN #74-75 and ACTION COMICS #684.

Thank you so much for this, one of the defining memories of my childhood and especially in terms of reading comics. I was never much of a Superman fan before this but if they were going to kill him, I had to know more. The splash page with Clark laying sprawled in Lois' arms after the brawl with Doomsday is one of the all-time classic goosebump moments for me. I still have my black-bagged edition of this lying around untouched, more for sentimental value than monetary (of course I bought the "cheap" copy to read it too, lol). This and the following arcs - Funeral For A Friend, Reign of the Supermen, and Return of Superman - were awesome, and so many parts of them stand out for me even to this day. Much appreciated blackcanary, thanks as always for your great Novus releases! :-)
Can anyone tell me where to get the Hunter/Prey mini series about Doomsday's origins (fighting The Radiant, Betron experiemnting with him on Ancient Krypton) REALLY want to read that!
